Who Is Cat Austin?

Committed teacher, mentor, director, pianist, vocal and performance coach, Cat brings her powerful knowledge of self-expression from many years of working in the performing arts. Cat brings out the personal best in each and every actor, singer, dancer, who works with her. She has over 25 live shows in her directing dossier. Most noted for her signature production of CABARET in 2013, her Tribute to Michael Jackson – It’s All For Love – in 2010, and her memorable adaptation, The Music and Story of The Lion King in 2008.

Cat started her theater company ETC in 2003 after the Columbine school shootings when she dedicated herself to providing a safe theatrical arena for teens to express their full range of emotions. Last year Cat transformed ETC into Cat•Austin•Projects with a particular current focus on her unique teen program, THE PASSAGE PROJECT.

There is music in her bones and in her DNA! Cat was raised by a Big Band Leader, Arranger, and Musician. She grew up with influence from her Grandparents who had circus preforming careers. Her Grandmother was a Trapeze Artist and Tight-rope Artist, as well as Singer, Dancer, and String Instrumentalist. Her Grandfather was a Lion Tamer, as well as a Musician. Cat knows a thing or to about pushing boundaries and she believes strongly Power of Music.

Cat transformed ETC into her current “love” THE PASSAGE PROJECT in 2014 in order to shine a bright light on teens’ unique experiences and their amazing spirits. THE PASSAGE PROJECT provides a Performance Lab for teens to create freely and honestly through writing and performing their own work (including original music).

Her favorite annual performing commitments include playing piano for Diana Rhoten’s Witchy Poo every October at the historical Sebastiani Theatre. She is the runway coach every April for all the models who wear their own recyclable creations in the Sonoma Community Center’s Trashion Fashion Show.
